When you’re fed up of taditional sunday dinners, other options in the region are available.
A visit to Hickorys is one such option. I haven’t been here since the great fire of 2016 where up in flames went the roof. I didn’t have anything to do with that but it has taken me this long to return and sample the menu based on the current (! Its been current for at least the last ten years!) ‘Texas BBQ’ fad – think smoked meats and Mac and Cheese.
Is it any good? It’s an expensive treat but you do get loads and is mostly good quality fare. The service from the friendly staff is brilliant!
I chose to start with the Popcorn Burnt Ends. Tasty, but a few of the bites were chewy rather than melt-in your mouth. Great flavour though.
Followed that up with the Kansas Ribs. Very tender however the BBQ sauce on the ribs is very vinegar sharp. Awesome skin-on fries. Super crunchy and well seasoned with Hickorys ‘Magic Powder’.
Special mention should go to their Milk Shakes -super thick and creamy – lovely.
Will I return? Yeah, more than likely but I’m going for the ‘Go Big or Go Home’ burger next time.
